National Unity (Ireland)

National Unity was an Irish nationalist political study group in Northern Ireland. Nationalism in Northern Ireland in the late 1950s was dominated by the Nationalist Party. This effectively operated as a network of elected politicians. Its attempt to build a rank-and-file movement, the Irish Anti-Partition League, had ceased to function in 1956 and was wound up in 1959. Although a few former members had formed local branches of the Nationalist Party, most were unorganised, while the only checks on and support for the politicians were conventions held before each election in order to select candidates.

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! In mathematical analysis, a differentiability class is a classification of functions according to the properties of their derivatives. Higher order differentiability classes correspond to the existence of more derivatives. Functions that have derivatives of all orders are called smooth. Smooth functions with given closed support are used in the construction of smooth partitions of unity (see partition of unity and topology glossary), these are essential in the study of smooth manifolds, for example to show that Riemannian metrics can be defined globally starting from their local existence.

Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. The extended finite element method (XFEM), also known as generalized finite element method (GFEM) or partition of unity method (PUM) is a numerical technique that extends the classical finite element method (FEM) approach by extending the solution space for solutions to differential equations with discontinuous functions. The extended finite element method (XFEM) was developed in 1999 by Ted Belytschko and collaborators, to help alleviate the above shortcomings of the finite element method and has been used to model the propagation of various discontinuities: strong (cracks) and weak (material interfaces).

Partition of Unity

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Partitions of unity are useful because they often allow one to extend local constructions to the whole space. The existence of partitions of unity assumes two distinct forms: 1. Given any open cover {Ui}i I of a space, there exists a partition { i}i I indexed over the same set I such that supp i Ui. Such a partition is said to be subordinate to the open cover {Ui}i. 2. Given any open cover {Ui}i I of a space, there exists a partition { j}j J indexed over a possibly distinct index set J such that each j has compact support and for each j J, supp j Ui for some i I. Thus one chooses either to have the supports indexed by the open cover, or the supports compact. If the space is compact, then there exist partitions satisfying both requirements.
